Ethiopian Religious Leaders Call for Tolerance

Ethiopian-New-Year-2011September 10, 2018 – In a new year greetings, Ethiopian religious leaders called on fellow Ethiopians for tolerance and to live up to their history of living together in harmony, and avoid any acts of hatred and evil deeds in the New Year.

The religious leaders extended their best wishes to all Ethiopians in the coming New Year. Ethiopia’s new year 2011 starts on tomorrow, Tuesday.

Abune Mathias, Patriarch of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church, said “new year celebration creates a positive attitude towards transformation and new goals in the new year,” according to FBC report.

Deputy President of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council, Mufti Hajji Omar Idris, on his part urged Ethiopian Muslims to reinforce their support to the ongoing reform.

Ethiopia’s Catholic Cardinal Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel urged the youth to stand united for peace and unity of the country.

Pastor Tsadiku Abdo, President of the Evangelical Churches Union of Ethiopia, said the active involvement of all citizens is crucial to maintain the ongoing reforms and avoid recurrence of Jigjiga, Guji, Gedeo and Hawassa incidents.

Rev. Yonas Yigezu, President of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus, stated that the prioritization of peace, love and forgiveness by the new leadership has elevated Ethiopia’s image in the global fora.
